Msani Clan History
The Msani are an African clan from Central Africa who made the migration south, settling mainly around uMthekwini Mountains and uHluhluwe area in Southern Africa.
Once settled they proved extremely independent and self-reliant – cultivating purple-grained maize with wooden hoes for cultivation; making pottery from clay mined from an area called iNhlokohlela.
Herding cattle while fighting bravely against invaders – their King, Nxaba Ka Mbhekane was an aggressive warriour who refused to submit his Msane tribe to Shaka Zulu’s control; fighting fiercely with him instead against him to keep his tribe independent.
Nxaba succeeded in defeating two Tsonga chieftaincies north of the Mhlathuze River and built his Msane tribe into a formidable force, but was ultimately unsuccessful in winning over Shaka’s Mgobhozi ovel’entabeni and decided to move away from southern Africa towards northern territory.
Mgobhozi Msane led his Msane tribe into Zulu chiefdom under Mgobhozi Msane’s guidance as Shaka’s most revered warrior and commander, quickly becoming Abakwa Bukhosini (those of right royal blood). Additionally, special names were given to distinguish their clan from others while homesteads had special names to make identification easier.
Msani Clan Origin
Msane Empire can be traced back to Delagoa Bay in Southern Africa in the 17th century. Originating from central Africa and migrating southwards via Delagoa Bay, they settled along mountain regions such as uMthekwini and Hluhluwe.
Where they farmed purple-grained maize fields while tending cattle using wooden hoes; also they displayed creativity by crafting clay pots, homebrew containers, ornaments and other objects using their unique creative skills.
Msane people were highly respected and seen as royalty, being accorded the title “Wena we Kunene”, meaning they descended from royalty.
Mgobhozi Msane was one of King Shaka’s closest allies and military commander-in-chief during the Zulu War, belonging to this tribe and showing great military achievements during that conflict.
The Msane were an influential and prominent clan that controlled much of Africa’s southern region due to their military skill and ability to resolve disputes among their members. Furthermore, their strong sense of family values ensured they remained one of Zulu history’s most prominent and powerful clans.
Msani Clan Meaning
Clan names in Msani have great significance because it enables individuals to gain insight into their roots and heritage. Clans form tribes which then combine to form nations – Xhosa for instance is comprised of four clans known as Radebe, Ndlovu, Nqawane and Mbatha which pass down their name through successive generations as “izithakazelo.”
The clan name Msani can be translated to mean ‘people of the cattle,’ as these were people who owned many cattle for farming and used them in war as well. Their training made them adept at defeating enemies easily; and it is said they could hold grudges for an extended period before forgetting.
Msani clans were one of several Nguni groups that moved south from Central Africa around 200 AD, eventually settling in Southern Africa and founding Msane Tribe, later known as Zulu Kingdom.
One leader of this clan was Mr Nuttal Vuma Msane who served as close advisor to Inkosi Zwelithini kaDinizulu; their descendants still exist today and can be found along Delagoa Bay and further into Eastern South Africa.
Msani Clan Variations
People often identify with their clans in African communities. Clan names are attached to people’s names so that others know which tribe they belong to; this practice provides an added sense of identity and community membership for people living there – this practice extends into Zulu nation too!
The Msane tribe are a prominent Nguni clan from Southern Africa’s Great Lakes area that first settled Sawziland. Led by Nxaba kaMbhekane – grandson of Sontuli kaMsane who served under Shaka as military associate and Army commander-in-chief – these highly esteemed people are revered and considered members of royal blood.
Highly respected among their community they are often referred to in Swati as having the royal blood and known for crafts such as pottery, homebrew containers and ornaments among their craftwork offerings.
The Msane are active participants in their community and frequently lend a helping hand with local charities and projects. Their family unit is extremely close-knit and supportive while remaining loyal friends throughout their history.
In spite of all challenges and obstacles they have had to face, the Msane tribe continues their fight towards restoring traditional leadership for umndeni. Furthermore, they remain an ally of Zulu monarch King Zwelithini and play an instrumental role in creating peace throughout Zimbabwe.
